A capable all-rounder and often available through REI.
The iRocker Nautical or GILI Air above are more affordable options for beginners.
For recreational paddlers looking for the capability to do it everything from fitness paddling to yoga, and leisurely flatwater cruising — a SUP such as that of the Bote Breeze Aero is another good option. It comes in two sizes (10’8″ as well as 11’6″) the Bote is a great choice for the majority of paddlers (the larger model can carry up to 315lbs. ) as well as 33 inches of deck width, a wide tail, and strong rails on the sides provide stability to people who are just beginning to get their sea legs. Materials and construction are top-quality despite its beginner-oriented design and the board is equipped with all the bells and whistles that we search for: grab handles, D-rings and grab handles, an oversized front bungee, as well as an ample deck pad. Also, we like the fact that Bote is offered by REI Co-op, which means you can visit your local shop (depending on the availability) and try a feeling of the board before you purchase.
At the current price the main issue we have about the Bote is the single layer design. Contrarily that iRocker All-Around above (currently on sale at $375) has three layers PVC which provides an extra-durable and more stable ride. In reality, the Breeze Aero’s structure puts into the same class as budget boards such as those of iRocker Nautical ($400) and GILI Air ($430), making the price somewhat difficult to come up with. If you’re interested in buying at REI this is the one to consider. Breeze Aero is nevertheless a loved SUP which offers sufficient performance for the majority of paddlers. If you want a better option from Bote check out the HD Aero model, which is made using two PVC layers to provide more rigidity and durability. It adds features such as an accessory sheath for the paddle, paddle attachments as well as an extra bungee on the back.
