Budget build quality.
Although Alps Mountaineering may not be the most innovative, they are certainly at the top of their price. The Lynx 1 backpacker is an excellent choice for solo backpackers, at a price of just $140- and often found on Amazon for under $100. The Lynx 1 is spacious enough for one person, provides good ventilation and weather protection, with two vents at the top. There’s also a vestibule and door to store your gear in the night. The Lynx is tough, with a 75-denier floor and strong zippers. This is great for people who are very picky about their gear.
A one-person tent is an option for those who travel solo in the backcountry. The 2P model is limited in its versatility, but there aren’t many downsides to this streamlined floor plan. There’s even enough space for your dog. The REI Co-op Passage (1P) and MSR Elixir (1P) are also good options. However, the Lynx is more affordable and lighter than the Elixir and Passage. Alps is a favorite among backpackers, both those with a limited budget and beginners. Be realistic about your expectations regarding material and build quality.
